Other Areas of Experience:

LGBTQ/Coming Out

Nancy has worked with many LGBTQ clients who are exploring their sexual or gender identity, coming out, looking for an ally to explore any aspect of emotional health, or who are coping with problems that arise when families, institutions, friends and culture are ambivalent, poorly informed or do not respond supportively or lovingly.

Eating Disorders

Nancy works with eating disorders in a multi-faceted way.  She requires medical supervision if clients are underweight or starving themselves, and recommends medical consultation for all clients with an active eating disorder.  She works to identify underlying factors, which may include mood disorders, body image problems, perfectionism, inner conflict, ambivalence about sexuality, trauma, and desire to control some aspect of life.  She also provides education about the medical impact of starvation, purging, laxative abuse and extreme dieting/restrictive eating patterns, and the ineffectiveness of all of these as forms of weight control.  She often recommends food logs during the active phase of treatment, but is willing to work with clients who are preparing to commit to change their eating disordered behavior.

Clients in Recovery from Addiction

Nancy is not a certified addiction counselor and does not provide chemical dependency evaluations.  She refers clients who are actively using chemicals abusively for evaluation.  However, she often provides support and therapy when clients know that they have a problem and are committed to their recovery.  It is common for other problem areas to interact with chemical abuse and addiction, such as mood disorders, relationship issues, self esteem and delayed life skills.  It is recommended that clients also participate in a recovery group, such as a 12-step program.

Nancy loves to help people grow, discover their gifts and passions, move through their inner blocks to self-expression, find courage, and present their authentic selves to themselves, their families and the world.
